Shay Gabso

Shay Gabso broke into public awareness after his appearance on the first season of “A Star is Born” with his special cover of “Pamela”. In the finals, held in August 2003 for an audience of thousands at Nitzanim, Shay performed “Fire” by Rami Kleinstein. Although he came in third place, he received a respectable prize – a contract for a single at NMC Records.

The result was “A Day and Two More”, written and composed by Gabso himself. The single became a record-breaking hit and led to a contract for an album with NMC. The album, written almost entirely by Gabso, was released in 2004 and produced by Moshe Daabul. Other hit singles from the album were “The Missing Words” and “I’ll Raise my Head”, still playing today.

At year’s end, Gabso was honored as Singer of the Year, Discovery of the Year, and “A Day and Two More” was named Song of the Year, achieving gold status.
In December of 2004, Gabso won first place at Israeli’s Song Festival, with the song “Someone Big” written by Hana Goldbert and composed by Dudi Levi.

Two and a half years after his first album, Gabso released his second album, “In My Place”, and from the sweet pop teen he became a more rebellious and mature artist, making less compromising and adding more bass and drums to his act. Shay is responsible for all lyrics and music on the album and was also an active part of production along with Ormi Agmon and Tomer Hadadi. These songs, like his video clips, performances, and album, brought Shay Gabso the artist to center stage, summarizing another stage in his impressive development.

In his second album, Gabso deals with the phenomenon of escape, tries to break the “bubble”, and goes out in a search for people. The singes in his album were “In My Place,” first on hit lists, as well as “You Tell Me”, behind which was a moving story – he wrote the song in the memory of Sgt. Liat Gabay who was murdered in a suicide bombing in 1994.

Along with his musical singles, Gabso released a trilogy of video clips, three clips in a series telling one story. This was Gabso’s own idea.

In November 2009, along with his band “The Mirrors”, Gabso released his third album, “Caravan”, symbolizing the change and maturation he underwent, and his transition into an appreciated rock artist with his personal style and texts.

Working on the album, Gabso visited the styles of the sixties, and colored his sound with hues of rock and folk.

The Mirrors are the band accompanying Shay during his album and performance work. Their close and daily work over two years managed to form the band and its precise sounds.

The album provoked a great deal of curiosity and received critical acclaim from the media and the general public, after its singles became radio hits.

Caravan documents a personal and intimate journey where Gabso looks inside and bravely contemplates issues that other artists prefer to avoid: morals, belonging, independence, patriotism, faith, and love.
